Call For ArtistsAn Art event to define existing urban areasKenya National Theatre, Harry Thuku Road, NairobiTHE THEATRE ZONE - Saturday 13 March 2010THE THEATRE ZONE is the way the space surrounding the Kenya National Theatre is defined by Nairobi youths. People gather in this area, exchange ideas, practices and share their art. One of the main public space/maskani of Nairobi's art scene. A real open-air cultural centre. Saturday 13 March 2010We will celebrate the beauty and the importance of this public space in Nairobi by organizing a cultural event in this areaArtists are invited to present innovative and creative  proposals for the Theatre Zone event - 13 March 2010 Proposals are welcome from individual artists and art groups. Preference is given to the following areas: music (bands and djs), video and VJ-ing, spatial installations, performance, photography. Proposals should refer to, and be situated in, the Theatre Zone.The spaces available include: the auditorium, the Wasanii Restaurant and the open space surrounding the theatre. Proposals should focus on the following issues: What is the Theatre Zone? What is the relation between Nairobi artists and this zone? Why do people gather in this area?  How has this area changed over the years? How can artists temporarily define/redefine this space? To what extent is this space 'public'?Entry Guidelines if you don't have internet access1. Submit a brief explanation of your concept (approx 300 words + sketches) plus -  lyrics if you are a musician -  DVD or CD with your works if you are a DJ, visual artist, performer, photographerto the Goethe Institut, Maendeleo House, Loita/Monrovia Street, CBD. 2. Submit an Urban Mirror registration form (forms available at the Goethe Institut) Entry Guidelines if you have internet access1.
