Urban Mirror - Love Zone - Call for Artists
Call For Artists
An Art event to define existing urban areas.Mpaka Road and Woodvale Groove, Westlands (Nairobi)The LOVE ZONE - Saturday 12 December 2009
Over the last 5 years Westlands has became a party district where people from different cultures and backgrounds meet and have fun. This is one of the few urban areas in Nairobi where, at night, people gather and walk from place to place in safety. We define this as the LOVE ZONE, a spontaneous Nairobi public space.
Artists are invited to present innovative and creative proposals to be exhibited on the 12th December 2009 in the Love Zone (Mpaka Road and Woodvale Groove, Westlands )
Proposals are welcomed by both individual artists and arts groups. Preference is given to the following areas: video, architecture and sculpture, spatial installations, performance, photography.
Proposals should refer to and be situated in the Love ZoneThe spaces available include: the streets, inside a Matatu (with TV screens) that will circulate the Love Zone all night, within the night clubs located in the Love Zone, in the corridors/open spaces of buildings within which the nightclubs are located.
Projects should focus on the following issues: What is the Love Zone? What could the Love Zone become? How has this whole area changed since more bars have opened? Is our experience of the city defined by our emotional state? What role does architecture play in shaping our experience of the city? How can artists temporarily define/redefine this space? To what extent is this space 'public'?
